Possum Trot

  • In the 1976 book “Right Here in River City”, legendary broadcaster and author Walt Bodine helped popularize the story of how KC missed being named “Possum Trot” by a single vote, a tale that traces back to John McCoy, a prominent member of 14 total men who banded together back in 1838 to purchase what we’d now recognize as downtown KC. Legend has it that during this meeting an elder gentleman named “Old Squire Bowers” jokingly suggested both “Rabbitville” and “Possum Trot”. Historians are dubious about just how close the vote truly was, here at Hammoth Designs we’re enjoying the exploration of the, “what if…” inside our Possum Trot collection.
